Kitchen Assistant Cook/Baker:   Pies & Plates is accepting applications for a cooking and baking assistant.  Duties include prep work, cooking, baking, order preparation, stocking and clean up.  We are a busy restaurant with a small staff so you pretty much have to be willing to do a bit of everything.  We serve breakfast and lunch only and are closed on Sundays.  Work hours will occur between 5 am - 5 pm Monday - Saturday.  We are closed on Sundays and in the evening.   We are looking for persons who are willing to work between 20 and 40 hours per week.  Prior cooking and baking experience is preferred and references are required.  Salary ranges from $8-$10 per hour depending upon experience and duties assigned.  We are a drug and tobacco free work place.

Server/Barista:  Pies & Plates is accepting applications for our "front of the house" team.  While we call this position a barista or server it involves doing a bit of everything.  We take orders, buss tables, do dishes, make great coffee beverages (barista), serve desserts, dish up soup, run food, handle retail sales, clean and mop and more.  This is a fast paced job that requires a lot of speed and physcial stamina with long hours on your feet and occassional heavy lifting.  We are looking for persons who are available 6 days a week Monday - Saturday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and who are willing to work 20-40 hours per week.  Experience is helpful but not required.  We are willing to train you if you have the right work ethic. This job involves direct contact with guests and thus requires good language skills and an outgoing personality.  We have a small staff, so each team member is expected to give 110%.  This job pays $5 per hour plus tips with minimum wage guaranteed.  No phone calls please - either apply on-line or in person.  We are a drug and tobacco free workplace.

Pies & Plates is one of Punta Gorda's most popular restaurants and retail stores.  We invite you to explore our website to get a good understanding of what Pies and Plates is all about! 

We have an energetic TEAM of hard-working and dedicated employees!  I stress the word TEAM because our employees get along with each other and have a great spirit of cooperation.  Any one of them will tell you that we work hard and non stop, but it is a fun and pleasant place to work.

Everyone at Pies & Plates is cross-trained to do multiple jobs.  So, even if you are hired to work in the kitchen, you will also be trained to work in the espresso bar and even the retail part of the store.  If you are hired as a barista (espresso maker) you'll be taught how to bake muffins, etc.  This helps keep your job dynamic and interesting.  Also, the more jobs you can do, the more valuable you are as an employee  In short, if you are going to groan and moan when we want to teach you a new task or give you additional responsibility, don't bother applying for this job!  

Our employees are paid an hourly rate that is determined by their prior job experience, special training, dependability, flexibility and their job duties.   Servers are generally paid a servers minimum wage plus tips.  All tips are put into a common fund and distributed bi weekly according to the number of hours a server has worked.  

Our goal is to not only hire employees but to KEEP our employees.  We believe that means that we must train you well so that you are comfortable and confident about the tasks you are asked to perform.  It also means that we must pay you competitive wages and reward exceptional performance and loyalty.

This job is physically demanding.  You will be on your feet and will be hustling non stop!  Some heavy lifting is involved.  And you will need to climb step stools, bend, balance trays, tote heavy pots and pans, etc.  The good news is you won't need a membership at the gym because you'll get a good workout while at work!   Also, you need to know that we don't allow smoking breaks and don't want you smelling like cigarettes.  Everyone has to be willing and able to do their share of the "YUCK" jobs...mopping, washing dishes, busing tables, etc.  Sounds a bit tiring but if you're in good shape, its not bad!

While food service or retail job experience is preferred, it is not required for most positions.  Most importantly, we are looking for good, dependable, long-term team players who are willing to learn!
